I've been getting into Splatoon lately, and I'm excited enough about it to start drafting up a character! I barely have more than a UA but I want to post here and start getting some ideas down. Maybe you guys can help out!
Inkling Squid or Kid?
UA: Inkling's kit comes with 7 Ink markers. She begins a duel with 1 Ink marker on her space. Whenever Inkling attacks, she places Ink markers on all the spaces within her range. Opponents standing in Ink reduce their movement effects by 1, while Inkling is able to move 1 extra space (should this also affect priority?). Ink markers are removed by opponent attacks; all the Ink markers in the range of an opponent's attack is removed when an opponent attacks.
Ideas: - Not sure what to do for a base, I had either Squid Jumps or Charger Shots in mind, but those could work as Styles also... - Squid Jump is kind of like a second dash and is used for positioning. Inkling would be able to move directly to any space on the board. - Charger is a long range attack and has +1 Power for each Ink marker it places on the board... or maybe that's pretty OP. - I think a Splat Wall style could keep opponents from entering a space with an Ink marker on it. - A Kraken style (or finisher) could be used to move through large areas of just Ink while also hitting the opponent. Similarly, there could be a Roller style that places Ink on the board as she moves.

I really like these ideas. My thoughts:
Weapons should be styles. It would make more sense as weapons can be used in different ways.
Squid Jump would make for a really good base.
Considering the inkling squid motif, Kraken just makes the most sense as a finisher, with a Splat Roller style as a downgraded version of it.
Ink markers probably shouldn't affect priority. If it did, Inkling could easily use, say, Roller Dash to get past the opponent (assuming a Roller style gives a movement effect) and lock the opponent as Inkling would almost always have more priority and would just stun over and over again.
Charger whould probably need a cap of 4 extra power if ink markers would boost power.

Thanks for the feedback!
Okay, I'll work around Squid Jump as a base. I was considering doing a sprinkler thing also, but yeah, Squid Jump would definitely work the best.
I think I've got a good idea for a Charger style: R: +0-X P: +1 S: -2 X is the number of ink markers in Inkling's token pool. OH: If the opponent was hit at the maximum range of this attack, the attack deals +2 Power.
As for other styles, I'll start thinking things up. Here's just a list of words I'll be working around: Roller Splat Wall Sprinkler Splattershot Inkbrush Slosher
And thinking about it for a little bit, how about this for Squid Jump: R: 1-2 P: 1 S: 4 (stats I just threw down, probably going to change.) SoB: Remove Inkling's standup from the board. BA: Place Inkling on any space with an Ink Marker on it. If there are no Ink Markers, place her on the center space (or far end?)

So here's an updated UA, that's definitely more clear on how everything should work:
Turf War: Inkling has 7 Ink markers. She starts a duel with 1 marker on her starting space. As an After Activating effect, Inkling places an Ink marker on each space within the range of her attacks. In addition, opponents have an After Activating effect of removing ink markers within the range of their attacks. During any movement, Inkling may move 1 extra space for each space with an Ink marker she enters. Opponents must spend 1 extra movement to enter a space with an Ink marker.
So Ink markers definitely allow Inking to move around the board a lot, while keeping opponents stuck.
Also, I decided to change up how Squid Jump works because removing the standup from the board is probably way too powerful...
Squid Jump R: 1-2 P: 1 (or 2?) S: 0 SoB: Move directly to the space (or board end?) farthest away from the opponent.
Also, I have a finisher in mind!
Inkstrike R: X P: 5 S: 2 X is the space where an Ink marker has been placed this beat. BA: Place all the Ink markers on the board. AA: Move up to 1 space.
EDIT: Okay here's more styles.
Splat Charger: R: +0-X P: +1 S: -2 X is the number of ink markers in Inkling's token pool. OH: If the opponent is at the maximum range of this attack, the attack deals +2 (or +1?) Power.
Roller: R: X* P: +0 S: -1 X is the space of an opponent you switched sides with this beat. Ignore the range of the base this beat. BA: Advance up to 3. Do not receive any extra movement from this. Place an Ink marker on each space you enter.
Inkbrush: R: +0 P: -1 S: +1 BA: Advance 1.
Splat Wall: R: +1 P: -2 S: +0 Only one Ink marker can be placed with this attack. Opponents cannot enter into that space this beat. Opponents who attempt to take 2 life loss instead. Opponent attacks cannot hit past this marker.
Splattershot: R: +1-2 P: -1 S: +0 AA: Move 1 space.
Still working on ideas for the other finisher.

Yeah, I think Kraken would be good. Inkstrike mostly functions as threat of power and upgrade (opponents want to stay on the ink and the attack itself sets up the board and your positioning anyway you'd like), while Kraken will be the game-ending finisher that only works if you've got plenty of ink on the board.
Kraken R: X P: 8 S: 4 X is the space of an opponent you switched sides with this beat. Soak 4 BA: Advance 1 or 2 spaces.

I think I'm pretty happy with this and I'm ready to start working on cards for playtesting. I guess the big question is what art to use. I could use the Smashified art, or go with an actual official art... I'm leaning toward more official for this one... Okay I've decided to go official. Heh.
