I roughed out a Shulk idea about a month ago - I worked on it again a few times but I wasn't quite happy with the balancing. And then Christmas happened. Anyway - I figure I may as well post what I have here and maybe some people can help me out. My idea for the monado cards was to use unique bases to go with the 'Monado' style so that the attacks had the correct names ('monado shield', 'monado buster', etc.)
UA:
Shulk has 5 unique Monado bases that can only be paired with his Monado style. While the Monado base is in his discard, he applies its effects to all his attack pairs.
Also Shulk begins a duel with 2 vision tokens and gains an additional one at the end of each beat, up to a limit of 5.
Styles:
“Air”
Range = +0
Power = +0
Priority = -2
• Soak 1 for each anted vision token
• Shulk may spend any number of vision tokens for +1 Soak
“Shaker”
Range = +1
Power = +0
Priority = -1
• This attack ignores stun guard
• Start of beat: Advance 1 space
“Stream”
Range = +0
Power = -1
Priority = +0
• Advance 1 space
• You may spend a token for +1 power
“Back”
Range = +0
Power = +0
Priority = +2
• Advance 1 space. If Shulk switched places with your opponent this beat, this attack gets +1 power
• After Activating: Retreat up to 1 space.
“Monado”
Range = +1
Power = +3
Priority = +2
• This style can only be paired with 1 of Shulk’s 5 unique Monado cards.
• Spend 5 tokens to become the active player this beat.
